Computer Graphics Workshop Event Poster
OBJECTIVE
Identify a special event {real or fictitious} such as a music festival, holiday, theater-production, fundraiser, etc., and design a print poster to advertise the event. Utilize design principles and color, hierarchy, weight, placement and type to convey your concept.
CHALLENGES
From my initial sketches, I opted for the most complicated design, presenting my first challenge. Crafting the text layout within the organic shape of the hearts proved to be a difficult task to establish an aesthetically pleasing image hierarchy. I decided to pull the text into Illustrator, where I found more success in manipulating its shape.

SKETCHES
I opted to create a poster for Taylor Swift's canceled 2020 Lover Music Festival amid the COVID-19 pandemic. I was aiming for a retro aesthetic for this imaginative event, so I drew inspiration from the music festival and concert posters of the 60s/70s era. With this in mind, I generated ten distinct sketches to capture the desired vintage vibe.
ROUGHS
I narrowed down my ten sketches to my two favorite designs and added more detail.
COMP
Selecting my preferred sketch, I took it into InDesign. The initial challenge involved crafting the hearts to achieve the desired shape, especially considering my limited experience with InDesign. Since I wanted to achieve a retro aesthetic for the text, I utilized Illustrator to manipulate and enhance it with additional effects.
FINAL
Upon receiving feedback from my peers, the initial modification I made for the final version involved incorporating the festival location. While the original composition included the venue name, suggestions were made to include the city, especially for those unfamiliar with Sofi Stadium. Then, I further refined the text wrapping. To enhance the retro aesthetic, I transferred the final InDesign version to Photoshop, where I added a paper mask to achieve a vintage, aged effect.
